Ten years ago, a wave of upheavals transformed West Asia and North Africa (WANA) - more recently joined by the demands for bread, freedom and social justice in Iraq, Lebanon, Algeria and Sudan. Despite the violence and the restoration of authoritarian rule, the processes initiated in 2010/11 are by no means brought to a conclusion but remain ongoing and open-ended. As part of this development in the WANA region, Berlin became the home of many who fought for a better society in their countries of origin and have now found Berlin as a space for their movements.
Thus, this event asks, what Berlin is as a site and a platform of these upheavals. We invite activists and intellectuals from exiled communities to discuss and reflect on the role of this city in the ongoing fight for a more just world in their home countries as well as here. The event's target audience is people that live here in exile and an interested general public in solidarity with these communities.

Tahrir in Berlin? – Reflektieren über ein Jahrzehnt der Revolutionen und des Exils
Vor zehn Jahren begannen die Aufstände in der WANA-Region – und auch jüngst wird im Irak, im Libanon, in Algerien und Sudan weiter für „Brot, Freiheit und soziale Gerechtigkeit” gekämpft. Trotz Gewalt und Restauration autoritärer Herrschaft sind die Transformationsprozesse noch nicht abgeschlossen, sondern nach wie vor dynamisch fortdauernd und offen.
Im Zuge dieser Entwicklungen in der WANA-Region ist Berlin heute Heimat vieler, die in ihren Heimatländern für eine bessere Gesellschaft protestierten und nun ihre Bewegungen auch hier fortführen.
Wir fragen in dieser Veranstaltung daher, was Berlin als Schauplatz und Plattform für diese Aufstände bedeutet und bedeuten kann. In einer Panel-Diskussion laden wir in Berlin lebende Aktivist*innen und Intellektuelle aus Exilgemeinschaften ein, über die Rolle von Berlin im Kampf um eine gerechtere Welt - in den Heimatländern, aber auch hier, zu reflektieren. Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an Menschen, die hier im Exil leben und eine interessierte und solidarische Öffentlichkeit.
