Launch and reflection – our German-Moroccan project dis:tance
In the past few weeks, we at dis:orient and En toutes lettres have published the results of our shared journalism project: nine texts about people and history(s) between Morocco and Germany.
We have all learned a lot in this process: Who has the interpretative sovereignty over discourses? Where are blind spots in mutual perception? What remains literally lost in translation – and can only be overcome through contextualisation?
We would like to invite you to reflect on these questions and come together online on 19th May at 7pm Moroccan Time/ 8pm, German Time.
We are convinced that the exchange of ideas between the North, the South and the in-between must be strengthened. Now more than ever, with the corona pandemic paralyzing physical exchanges. In addition, international cooperation between the press and civil society has become extremely important.
Our event also offers space for a joint reflection on the future of the project and the basic idea: cooperation between journalists from the global South and the global North, who research and write together about their common contexts.

Présentation du projet Dis:tance – Un projet journalistique mené par Dis:orient et En Toutes Lettres
Ces dernières semaines, nous avons publié les résultats de la coopération journalistique entre nos deux structures: neuf textes sur des personnes, l’histoire et des histoires entre le Maroc et l'Allemagne.
Nous avons tous appris beaucoup de choses au cours de ce processus : qui a le pouvoir d’interpréter les discours ? Où se trouvent les angles morts de la perception mutuelle ? Qu’est-ce qui se perd irrémédiablement dans la traduction et ne peut être surmonté que par la contextualisation ?
Nous vous invitons à réfléchir à ces questions et à vous réunir avec nous en ligne le 19 Mai prochain (19h en Maroc, 20h en Allemagne).
Nous sommes convaincus que l’échange d’idées entre le Nord, le Sud et l’entre-deux doit être renforcé. Maintenant encore plus que jamais, avec la pandémie de Corona qui paralyse les échanges physiques. En outre, la coopération internationale entre la presse et la société civile est devenue extrêmement importante.
Notre événement offre également un espace pour une réflexion commune sur l'avenir du projet et de d’une idée générale : une coopération équilibrée entre journalistes du Sud et du Nord, qui recherchent et écrivent ensemble sur leurs contextes communs.

Launch und Reflexion – unser deutsch-marokkanisches Projekt dis:tance
In den vergangenen Wochen haben wir von dis:orient und En toutes lettres die Ergebnisse unserer journalistischen Kooperation veröffentlicht: Neun Texte über Menschen und Geschichte(n) zwischen Marokko und Deutschland.
Wir alle haben in diesem Prozess viel gelernt: Wer hat die Deutungshoheit über Diskurse? Wo sind blinde Flecken in der gegenseitigen Wahrnehmung? Was bleibt wortwörtlich lost in translation – und kann nur durch Kontextualisierung überwunden werden?
Zur Reflexion dieser Fragen wollen wir einladen und dazu am 19.05.2021 um 20 Uhr (dt. Zeit/ 19 Uhr marok. Zeit) online zusammen kommen.
Wir glauben fest daran, dass der gedankliche Austausch zwischen Norden, Süden und dem Dazwischen gestärkt werden muss. Vielleicht jetzt mehr denn je, da die Corona-Pandemie den physischen Austausch lahmlegt. Darüber hinaus ist die internationale Zusammenarbeit zwischen Presse und Zivilgesellschaft extrem wichtig geworden.
Unsere Veranstaltung bietet auch Raum für ein gemeinsames Nachdenken über die Zukunft des Projekts und der grundlegenden Idee: Der Kooperation zwischen Journalist:innen aus dem globalen Süden und dem globalen Norden, die zusammen über ihre gemeinsamen Kontexte recherchieren und schreiben.
