Die Straße von Hormus ist derzeit ein omnipräsentes Thema in den Nachrichten. Verfolgt man diese, wirkt der Ort wie ein reiner Schauplatz militärischer Operationen und des internationalen Handels. Der Kurzfilm „About Love on A Small Island“ (2018) von Elaheh Habibi zeigt eine andere Seite, wie überall leben und lieben sich Menschen auch dort.
Der Film zeigt Beziehungen ohne vorgezeichnete Kategorisierung, er versteht Liebe nicht ausschließlich als politisch oder romantisch. Stattdessen stellt die Regisseurin Liebe und Beziehungen so dar, wie sie alltäglich erlebt werden – und hinterfragt im selben Moment stereotype Vorstellungen muslimischer Frauenbilder und westlicher Liebesideale.
Die Protagonist:innen Ayesh, Miriam und Saleh leben zusammen in einem kleinen Dorf auf der iranischen Insel Qeschm in der Straße von Hormus. Sie gehören der sunnitischen Minderheit Irans an. Der Film begleitet sie in ihrem Alltag, sie sprechen über ihre Beziehung, ihre Vorstellungen von Liebe und ihre Vergangenheit. „About Love on a Small Island“ versucht nicht, aufzuklären, einzuordnen oder politisch zu sein, sondern lässt die Beziehung für sich sprechen.
Im Anschluss an das Filmscreening wollen wir gemeinsam mit der Regisseurin und weiteren Gästen über Liebe, Beziehungen und das alltägliche Leben in der Straße von Hormus sprechen.

The Strait of Hormuz is currently a constant topic in the news. If you follow their narrative, the place seems to be nothing more than a stage for military operations and international trade. Elaheh Habibi’s short film “About Love on a Small Island” (2018) shows a different side—just like everywhere else, people there live and love one another.
The film shows relationships without prior categorization, viewing love not exclusively as political or romantic. The director portrays love and relationships as they are experienced in everyday life—while challenging Stereotypes of muslim women and Western ideals of love.
The protagonists, Ayesh, Miriam, and Saleh, live together in a small village on the Iranian island of Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz. They belong to Iran’s Sunni minority. The film follows them in their daily lives. They talk about their relationship, their ideas about love, and their past. “About Love on a Small Island” does not attempt to educate, categorize, or be political, but lets the relationship speak for itself.
Following the film screening, we would like to discuss love, relationships, and everyday life in the Strait of Hormuz with the director and other guests.
